Fresh Vs. Dry

When it comes to juice, what do you choose? Freshly squized orange juice, or powder? This is what we thought when we decided to go for fresh spirulina.

Dry spirulina has magnificent properties. In a clinical study [1] on nine moderately trained males in Greece, the ones consuming spirulina for a month had their stamina increased by 30% at full speed on a treadmill, after jogging for 2h.

Given that dry spirulina gives so good results, just imagine what could be achieved by consuming all fresh spirulina! Fresh spirulina has much higher concentration in beneficial compounds, as no drying takes place. Furthermore, fresh spirulina has much higher bioavailability, meaning a bigger part is absorbed by our bodies. Overall, fresh spirulina has much higher antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potency, compared to the dry one [2].

So, why do producers dry spirulina? They do this to increase the shelf life of the product. However, this is a weird practice, once you come to understand that half of the antioxidant potency of dry spirulina is destroyed within a month, even at mild Temperatures 25°C [3].
This is true as antioxidant compounds are heat-sensitive.

Nowadays, spirulina is produced far away from big urban centers. This mandates its drying. This is where ITS ALIVE comes to fill the gap. We developed a technology through two years long experimentation, to offer all-fresh spirulina at the price of the dry one. No excuses for dry spirulina anymore.

Fatty Liver

Liver is the biggest organ of our body, second only to our skin. Its functions include: nutrients processing, gathered from our food, and harmful substances filtering from our blood.

A bit of liver fat is normal. Higher concentrations, however, indicate hepatic steatosis (aka fatty liver). If the patient is a heavy alcohol drinker, then this condition is called: alcoholic fatty liver disease (AFLD). Otherwise it is called NAFLD: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

It is estimated that about 25 to 30% of the general population in Europe and the USA suffer from NAFLD [1]. NAFLD patients have increased risk of premature cardiovascular and liver-related mortality [2] . Symptoms include:
loss of appetite, weight loss, weakness, fatigue, nosebleeds, itchy skin, abdominal pain, swelling etc.

Doctors evaluate the condition based on several methods: checking the family medical history, physical exams, blood tests (ALT and AST), Imaging studies (ultrasound, CT, MRI) and biopsy.

In a study, 13 males from Crete with an age range 29-62, suffering from NAFLD, have been consuming 6g of dry spirulina per day for 6 months. Their AST and ALT values decreased by 38,5% and 37,5% respectfully [3]. Simultaneous reduction of LDL cholisterol and triglycerides values, and an increase to HDL cholisterol and hemoglobin values were observed. The conclusion is that a significant increase to their health-related quality of life was observed.
Given that these results were achieved with the use of dry spirulina, could you imagine what Fresh Spirulina could help you achieve?
